RUBE Goldbergs and Trebuchets: April 30, 2016

A Rube Goldberg Convention…

Rube 1At 9:00 a.m. on April 30, 2016, Living Science’s 2016 Rube Goldberg Convention begins, featuring our 9th grade Physical Science classes. The students have been working on their Rubes for several months, and you’ll be amazed at the creative contraptions they have designed and built.
Rube 2

The Rube Goldberg convention is a Living Science tradition and a key component of our High School STEM curriculum. Each Rube must use all the forms of energy the students have studied this year (except nuclear!) and demonstrate all the simple machines and each of Newton’s three laws of motion.

and a Trebuchet Competition

After the Rube Goldberg convention and a short lunch break, our high school physics class will show off their trebuchets in competition.  We recognize the most accurate, most precise (consistent), and furthest throw.  The competition will probably start around 1:30 p.m. and last until 3:00 p.m.

Current Living Science families are encouraged to attend, especially those of 8th graders who expect to be making their own Rubes next year. New and prospective new families are also welcome. Come and enjoy the incredible creativity of our students!

And check out this video showing past Rubes and trebuchets.
